Fundraising for human heart surgery a huge success

On Sunday June 26, the Save a Life fundraising event took place at The Question Pub in Krugersdorp CBD.

The purpose of the event, which was sponsored by VIIP Entertainment, HRL Productions, Big Bang Party Hire, EJ’s Kitchen and Halewood Artisanal Spirits, was to raise money for heart surgery for Leon Piek whose heart only works at 14 % of its capacity. According to his wife Charmaine, doctors have speculated that the condition is most likely Covid-related.

Entertainers Devon Jay Scott, Marli Barnes, Cherril, Carla Lee and Leonard Lang entertained the crowd from approximately 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. while attendees enjoyed drinks and food, and children played on a bouncy castle.

Both Charmaine and organizer Ruan Erasmus of VIIP Entertainment called the day a huge success but said they were still nowhere near the million rand needed for the operation and other medical expenses such as doctor visits and medications. This in turn depends on whether or not Leon finds a heart donor. Ruan said: “What is important is that it was about saving a life. We have all come together to help. That’s what I’m grateful for.
