CARACHI:

Sindh Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (SICVD) took another step to start free Heart Bypass surgeries at SICVD Hyderabad on Tuesday when Cardiac Surgeons Prof. Dr. Rizwan Memon and Prof. Fazl-e-Rabi along with the Anesthetist Professor Amin Khuwaja performed the first open heart surgery.

With the first successful surgery at the SICVD satellite center, Hyderabad has become the 5th city to have such a facility in the province.

Doctors have called the facility auspicious for residents of Hyderabad and neighboring areas. They said that people from these areas travel to Karachi or other major cities for treatment of heart conditions, but now they will be able to get state-of-the-art heart treatment closer to home free of charge.

Doctors said the first open-heart surgery at the center in Hyderabad was performed on an 18-year-old patient from Matiari district. The patient is stable and recovering, they said, adding that when the patient was told she would have surgery near her home, she was overwhelmed with joy.

The surgeons maintained that it is a great achievement of SICVD to perform the first open heart surgery in Hyderabad 100% free.

With the launch of this cardiac surgery facility, we will be able to provide comprehensive cardiac care to patients. SICVD aims to provide specialized care to each patient, especially the most needy.
