Diocese says prelate’s heart surgery was successful

The Diocese of Bayombong announced Tuesday, September 6, that Bishop Jose Elmer Mangalinao had successfully undergone coronary angioplasty.

Still, the diocese has asked the faithful to continue to pray for the prelate’s speedy recovery.

“Please continue to pray for him for his speedy recovery as he remains in critical but stable condition,” the diocese said in a Facebook post.

“We so appreciate all the well-wishers for showing love and prayers for our dear Bishop and for wanting to visit him. Please note that we cannot accept visitors from this moment when the Bishop Heals. We need him to rest and recover so he can heal quickly and can be with all of us again,” he added.

“Also, please refrain from calling the nurses station so that the nurses caring for him are not distanced from him,” the diocese said.

Mangalinao, 62, has served as Bishop of Bayombong since 2018.

He currently chairs the Episcopal Commission on Catechesis and Catholic Education of the Philippine Conference of Catholic Bishops.
