Actor Timothy Spall on “aggressive” cancer diagnosis – symptoms

The 64-year-old actor shocked fans after dramatic weight loss transformed the actor’s appearance. Reveal that he wanted to completely change his lifestyle and lose weight after getting tired of being “on the fringes” of other people’s films. The star’s new lease of life meant he was only going to agree to take part in projects “irresistible” “to him. Another event that occurred when the actor was 39 years old leading to close contact with the death, also gave Timothy a new perspective on his life.

While the star was about to promote Mike Leigh’s film Secrets & Lies in 1996 at the Cannes Film Festival, she was diagnosed with leukemia.

Thinking back to that time in her life on The Graham Norton Show, the star said, “I was diagnosed with leukemia the day I was due to go to Cannes, and when I saw everyone walk down the red carpet, my first chemo was stuck directly to my heart as I watched it all happen.

“It was good because they were winning awards as I was sort of impersonating not trying to hang it, which I bravely managed to achieve.”

At the time and with his future uncertain, the actor said he found himself in a state of depth, viewing life with a great depth of intensity, quality and emotion.

“When you’re in a state of not knowing whether or not you’re going to live or die or not, you’re in a deep state,” Timothy continued.

“So I remember going to the park between treatments and looking at a tree and for the first time really thinking how amazing it was.

“And for about 10 minutes, I thought, ‘This is a very beautiful tree. And then after a while I did it again, and after a while I thought, ‘You know, this deep thing is a little overrated.’ “

The Mayo Clinic explains that leukemia is a type of cancer that affects the blood, bone marrow, and lymphatic system. There are different types of disease, some more common in children and others in adults.

DO NOT MISS :

Timothy was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), which refers to the rapid and aggressive nature of the disease and the type of white blood cells the disease affects.

The two main types of white blood cells affected by acute leukemia include:
Lymphocytes – which fight viral infections
Myeloid cells – which do slightly different things like fighting bacterial infections, defending the body against parasites, and preventing the spread of tissue damage.

Due to the aggressiveness of acute leukemia, symptoms develop rapidly within weeks and may get worse over time.

These symptoms can include:

  • Look pale or “washed out”
  • Feeling tired or weak
  • Shortness of breath
  • Frequent infections
  • Unusual and frequent bruising or bleeding, such as bleeding from the gums or nose
  • Involuntary weight loss
  • Excessive sweating, especially at night
  • Bone pain or tenderness
  • Fever or chills.

In Timothy’s case, he noticed that he was getting more and more tired and that mysterious bruises were appearing all over his body. When he finally visited the doctor, he was shocked to find that he had purple and red spots on the inside of his mouth.

With only 3,100 people diagnosed with AML each year in the UK it is classified as a rare disease, with most people over 75 when diagnosed, making Timothy’s diagnosis at age age 36 extremely rare.

Treatment for AML should start as soon as possible after diagnosis, as the disease can spread and get worse quickly.

As Timothy mentioned earlier, chemotherapy is the primary treatment for AML. The therapy is used to kill as many leukemia cells as possible in your body and reduce the risk of the disease coming back and coming back.

“I asked the doctor two questions. I said, ‘Am I going to die?’ He said ‘No, no. They can do wonderful things these days, ”continued Timothy.

“The other question was, ‘Is this going to ruin my career? “”

Luckily for the actor, within three months and after just two courses of chemotherapy, he was cleared and in remission.

Timothy added, “When you get seriously ill, you fall into paranoia. I hated Shane watching me transform into this old man with no hair. I felt like I was forcing this decline on him, and that’s why I felt so guilty about it.

“So when I got better and started being mean and cursing the people I loved and yelling at people in traffic jams and being ridiculous and funny and scatological, I knew I was because when you die you tend to be deep so never be afraid to be a little fool that means you won’t die.
